About Us
Seaside Home Veterinary Care is an in-home veterinary service whose purpose is building meaningful relationships with our clients in the communities we serve. We do this by communicating readily and frequently with our clients, listening to their needs, and getting to know their animals in an inherently intimate setting – their own home.
Our mission is to provide relationship driven in-home veterinary care to those that desire, or require it, while providing a high quality work environment with a great culture for all those who are part of our team. Part of this involves having a great team where everyone knows what is expected of them, and has the tools necessary to perform their job well.
We also have well-defined values that we consider when making all of our decisions, so it is important that you are familiar with, and share these values, if you join the team. These values are:
· We aim to be humble and realize that we all have room for growth.
· We hold ourselves, and one another, accountable for our actions, words, and expectations.
· We can be trusted to keep our promises, help one another, and show up as our best selves each day.
· We keep kindness at the top of our priority list each day, both when it comes to our clients, colleagues, and one another, always choosing to help when we can, even if it’s just in a small way.
· We value integrity and making our decisions based on what is right and moral.
· We are adaptable and flexible in a way that allows us to still bend where necessary to help, rather than following a formula when responding to unique situations.
We are dead serious about these values, as they form the basis of our work culture. If they align with you, please keep reading! If not, no problem, but this is probably not your next move.
About the Job
We are looking for a people loving, self-motivated, empathetic, compassionate soul to join our team as a Veterinarian.
In this role you will be going out on the road daily to see patients and provide them with veterinary care directly in the homes of our clients. You will have a Veterinary Assistant or Technician with you for these appointments, as your right hand to assist with restraint, billing, and any of your veterinary needs, as well as to drive the vehicle so you have time to complete medical notes, follow ups, and other veterinary tasks. These appointments range from wellness checks and vaccinations, to blood work, ultrasounds, and euthanasias. You will need to assess what the patient needs based on the appointment, and provide all services that are within the scope of in-home practice. You will need to have above average emotional intelligence and communication skills in order to provide our clients with the personalized and client service oriented service they have come to love and expect. Our client’s expect to feel like they know us, and they do because we take the time to get to know them too.
Self-motivation is integral to success in this role, as you are expected to keep your team on task for you and your clients needs, and to be able to meet the needs of the clients you serve with efficiency and consistency. Home appointments allow for a lot more time to build relationships, and less distraction in order to allow undivided attention to your patients, so this should be capitalized upon to the greatest extent possible to provide excellent client and patient care.
It is also important to us that we show our clients and followers how much we enjoy the time we get to spend doing this job, so documenting your day for social media posting is an extra fun requirement when working at Seaside! Your assistant will be able to greatly assist with this!
Time management is incredibly important in order to ensure accurate record keeping while on the go daily, and also because arriving on time for our scheduled appointments is very important for our business practices. With this skill mastered, there is a great opportunity for good work-life balance as a House Call Veterinarian.
Home visits allow us an incredibly special opportunity to see our patients in their element, and also to see patients that may not have access to care without us, so we consider ourselves privileged to be doing what we are doing. We often spend time with clients directly in their homes during some of the most difficult times of their lives (ie: saying goodbye to their beloved pets), so being comfortable with very emotional situations, and being able to provide comfort during these times is essential to success in this job.
We are open from Monday to Friday during daytime hours, and there are no weekend or on-call duties associated with the Veterinarian Role at Seaside Home Veterinary Care.
About You
You are a warm, kind, compassionate person who likes to always see the best in people. You are well known amongst your peers for your optimism and desire to help whenever you can.
The idea of your days consisting of visiting pets in their homes sounds like a dream come true. You have always felt something was missing when working in a clinic because you would want to spend more time listening to what client’s had to say, but felt the pressure of the other client’s in the waiting room so you kept plugging forward. You would feel a spark when you were able to talk long enough to get some of that closeness with clients, but it never has felt like enough.
The people who know you describe you as an empath. You are always trying to put yourself in the shoes of others so that you don’t draw unfair conclusions about their behaviours. You see the good in everyone and believe that if you are kind, it will serve you well.
You also do not need the help of others to keep you on task. When you have a schedule, you stick to it, but you have excellent emotional intelligence and can gracefully leave a situation leaving everyone feeling like they are important. But you do not like to go to bed without every box checked, and every task on hand completed.
In short, you are smart with an infectious personality, love people with your whole heart, and going above and beyond makes your world go round. You can’t believe how happy it would make you to get to live your veterinary life more like Dr. James Herriot.
